One to One Training

What is One To One?

One to One: Practicing Reading with Students is purposely designed to provide opportunities for:

  1. a struggling reader to practice reading and gain self-confidence
  2. a volunteer to have a relevant role that helps a student and a teacher
  3. a community to have impact on student achievement

One to One: Practicing Reading with Students trains business and community volunteers to produce measurable, positive results for kindergarten to third grade students who are struggling with reading. The volunteers, or literacy coaches, practice individually with students once a week; in a simple format that emphasizes reading, writing, and building basic skills. As a result, volunteers are able to make serious, meaningful connections with struggling students and can help move them toward reading proficiency, which is a critical factor in a child's academic success. In order to become a literacy coach in the One to One program, a volunteer must complete six-hours of training.
